About the Host
Oldies DJ Butch Thomas has been playing oldies and hosting dances since
1968. Butch attended Trenton State College (now The College of New
Jersey) where he was the DJ on the college radio station WTSR FM.
He played R&B music and was called "Broadway Butch". While at
Trenton State Butch brought groups like the fabulous Ebonys, The
Last Poets and The Brothers of Love to a predominately caucasian campus.
Butch
graduated from TSC in 1972 with a BA degree and then attended Morgan State
University in Baltimore, MD.
He continued to DJ after becoming a teacher in South Jersey.
In 1989 Butch
started to play oldies at Club Impulse in Philadelphia and it was there that
Line Dancing came back into force.
In 1993 Butch
started the 1st Friday dance at Degenhardt's in South Jersey and recently
celebrated his 10th anniversary. In 1998 Butch Thomas started the Oldies
Dance at The Stardust Ballroom in Pennsauken, NJ, which was owned by the
late Russ Patrick. The Stardust was in action the 3rd and 4th Saturday
of every month and attracted significant crowds.
Butch has now
moved on to host the Soul Line TV show . The show is seen on Comcast Cable,
Dish and Direct TV in New Jersey, Delaware and Urban Cablevision
in
Philadelphia, PA. Tune in every Wednesday night from 8 pm -- 9pm. See
